Massage Therapy At Wellness Alternatives

Choosing the Correct Massage Therapist
Therapeutic massage benefits should be evident with each massage. Knowing what to expect when getting a massage is very important. Massage Therapy can be related to the Goldilocks Philosophy. This one is too hard. This one is too soft and then you have "just right".

MassageWhat does LMT stand for?
Licensed Massage Therapist. An LMT has over 500 hours of school and training. LMTs are state licensed and Nationally Certified. Make sure these certificates are hanging in the office or ask to see them.

What can I expect during my visit?
Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your first appointment so we can personalize your services. Optional aromatherapy (no charge), hot stone and/or honey therapy available. You will be given a client history form. On this form, you will be asked about medical conditions, surgeries, areas of pain and level of pain in that area, and reason for this visit. Please let us know if you have a medical condition or are presently under a physician's care.

You will be asked about your goals for the treatments. The LMT will assess your problem and put you on a treatment plan. If your massage was for sports therapy, generalized health benefits, or pain, an evaluation of your progress and on-going needs will be discussed at each visit with your therapist. Outcome based therapy, which is massage therapy aimed at specific physical conditions, is often recommended once or twice a week and progress evaluated at each visit.

Do I need to remove all my clothes?
You will be asked to remove your clothes in the privacy of the room. You may keep underpants or loose fitting shorts on. You will then climb onto a soft table and cover up with the sheet and blankets provided for you. Only the area being massaged will be exposed. Your privacy will be valued and maintained at all times.

What are the hygienic recommendations?
Massage rooms will be cleaned and sanitized after each client. Clean sheets should be used for each client. The massage therapist will evidence that they are clean and well groomed to the client.

What do I do during the Massage?
Relax, close your eyes, and don't think about what you have to do after the session. Breathe. If you feel discomfort or the air in the room is too hot or too cold, speak up.
