THE VISCERAL
COMPONENT
Patients often
will say they feel "out" and need an adjustment to get realigned. Many
patients and docs feel that a successful adjustment is one that is
associated with the cracking sound of spinal joints. While there is no
evidence to suggest that an adjustment must be accompanied by a pop or
crack, these patients and doctors tend to like it better and feel more
confident that a meaningful event occurred when we hear the crack.
Why then do some
people always go "out of adjustment"? What causes them to go "out"
again? While many are familiar with the CARDIAC REFLEX (heart attack)
and the painful left shoulder,
few know that other organs can refer pain to different parts of the
body.
As you can see
from the picture, each organ is associated with a specific vertebra.
Inflammation or irritation of an organ (bowels or viscera) produces
reflex stimulation to the spinal nerves which control muscles
controlling the vertebra and the sympathetic nerves which control every
organ in the body. Organs have no pain sensing nerves and it isn't until
they are very swollen and inflamed that actual organ pain is
experienced. The bowel irritation arises from many factors, the chief
factor being inflammation and dysbiosis (fermentation, putrefaction,
sensitization and deficiency) which causes swelling of the intestines,
causing them to encroach upon organs lying next to them. A stretching
of the abdominal tissue takes place. Arteries, veins and lymphatic
channels are clogged.
This type of
problem may stretch one or more of the abdominal organs and produce such
terrific musculoskeletal pain that pain killing drugs may be required
for relief. The soft tissues that make up the viscera of the body are
the focal points from which practically every musculoskeletal reflex
arises.
A person will
experience the sudden shoulder pain with inability to move their arm.
Certainly such a disaster must have a traumatic cause, yet it is an
established fact that today's fast pace, high stress, poor diet
lifestyle are the causes for more shoulder pains than are all traumatic
causes combined. Overloading the gastro intestinal machinery with
stress and fast food/poor diet produce such a gastro intestinal overload
that back pressure is bound to develop resulting in THE ILEOCECAL
REFLEX
(abdominal pain or
discomfort in the abdomen, often relieved by or associated with a bowel
movement,
chronic diarrhea,
constipation, or a combination of both, milky
mucus in the stool, a
swollen or bloated abdomen or the feeling that you have not finished a
bowel movement) AND THE PAINFUL RIGHT SHOULDER.
This distortion is
known as the
viscero-spinal-occipital reflex
lesion.
The basic cause of
disease may be summed up by saying that bones out of place and soft
tissue distortions are the fundamental contributors of all disease. The
objective in Sacro Occipital Technic (SOT) practiced by Dr. Peterson is
to restore normal position to all tissues so that normal position may
encourage normal function and health.
The precise
benefit that SOT holds in overcoming disease is its effect on soft
tissue distortions. Utilizing Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technic,
Dr. Peterson can neutralize the neurologic reflex to stop the constant
"going out" and referred pain being experienced plus assist in restoring
the proper organ function.
If you or someone
you know is experiencing chronic reoccurring pain, you may benefit from

 When a
person has a heart attack where do they have pain? The pain usually
manifests in the left arm, chest, neck & jaw. Common, classical and
life threatening so we pay attention to it. If the heart can refer pain to
those areas, can other organs cause pain to other areas of the body?
Yes! Since
pain associated with other organs is not life threatening, treatment is
given according to the specialty of the healthcare provider. You are also
allowed to have more than one problem and each is treated as a separate
issue. Remember the Working Law – No part can be separated from the
whole and exist in and of itself. We do what we are taught and do the best
at it we can.
Following is a list of Viscerosomatic pain and the organ associated with
it.

Monitors
organs function and create a pull when an organ is in distress
|
When you
were being formed as an embryo these areas listed were being formed at the
same time as the organ. They are siblings. If one of your siblings has a
problem, does it ever spill over into your life?
These areas are taught
during physical diagnosis class and are forgotten after the final exam.
These and many more symptoms have been observed and correlated by the
Doctors studying SOT for the past 75 years. But before treatment can be
given it must first be confirmed through analysis and diagnosis of the
multitude of neurological indicators. Dr. De Jarnette stated that if
analysis and confirmation of the indicators was not performed all
treatment is in error. Wellness Alternatives uses state of the art labs to
confirm which organ system is contributing to your symptoms.
Multiple problems are
the body’s attempt to defend the initial problem. Remember, after the
primary lesion (dysfunction) everything the body does is defensive in
nature. Sometimes treating the initial problem works (if it is found) and
a spontaneous remission occurs. But if it is three or four layers deep (Viscerosomatosomatic
Pain), each successive layer must be corrected before reaching
the initial problem. Remember, Herings Law of Cure – the body
heals in the reverse order in which it occurs.
It is thought that 85%
of muscle aches and pains are Viscerosomatic pain. Which is which?
A general rule of thumb
is if you do something to earn the pain, i.e. have a fall down - go boom, you end up with a bruise, abrasion,
feel something almost immediately. You can point to the same spot every
time and you know where it is. You have a spot injury and should be taken
care of as such. This is know as Somatosomatic Pain.
If the problem just
came on slowly over time and you have to use a broad hand to show where it
is and do the Funky Chicken moves to make it hurt, you have an organ in
distress and/or if you have nagging symptoms that come and go at the same
time of day, season or year, you have an organ that is in distress and
needs help (Viscerosomatic Pain).
The altered function of
the organ will cause an inherent weakness in the related muscle, disposing
it to stress and injury. This in turn alters the function of the muscles
which alters the movement of a joint which then alters the structure of
the joint, altering the function of the joint, etc., etc. When treatment
is given to the joint and muscle, it can resolve. But if it continues,
this can create more wear and tear and a person may decide to live with it
dismissing it an inevitable aging or opts for surgery.
How Long
Should Musculoskeletal Pain Take to Heal?
How long should it
take to heal if it is a true muscle problem? About six to eight weeks.
Physical therapy is effective for these conditions. However, if the
problem continues beyond six to eight weeks and/or returns, it is most
likely viscerosomatic pain. This will require the Functional Medicine
services combined with Sacro Occipital Therapy to correct the problem.
Until the Viscerosomatic reflex causing
the referred pain is eliminated the problem will continue. Chiropractic
Manipulative Reflex Technique neutralizes these reflexes much like
resetting the defaults on a computer. As you may have experienced on your
computer, nothing works properly until the defaults are restored.
Sacro Occipital
Technique provides Dr. Peterson with the tools to evaluate a patient’s
condition and determine the proper course of treatment using Chiropractic
Manipulative Reflex Technique and supplement protocols to assist the natural healing momentum back
on course. This course of analysis and treatment provides the Dr.
Peterson
with indicators that combined with the objective lab testing, provide him
with a more accurate assessment of the your condition than basing
everything on symptoms and early warning of potential problems should the
imbalances progress. With accurate assessment of the
indicators and the help of functional laboratory testing, custom tailored
treatment can be easily applied, greatly increasing the chances for
therapeutic success.
